Tap dance was born in the United States during the 19th century, and today is popular all around the world. The name comes from the tapping sound made when the small metal plates on the dancer's shoes touch a hard floor. This lively, rhythmic tapping makes the performer not just a dancer, but also a percussive musician. Jazz style of dance is what is seen in many Broadway shows such as "Cats." It is a structured, stylistic and energetic form of dance, with its roots in ballet and modern dance techniques. Dancers will develop flexibility, muscle strength, and understanding of rhythm. A foundation of jazz terms and combinations will be core for this class. Small
