5 THINGS EVERY PARENT SHOULD KNOW
BEFORE CHOOSING A DANCE STUDIO

How Do I Choose A Dance Studio?

Most dance studios seem to have nice teachers, experienced  in teaching children and a big show at the end of the year. Are they all pretty much the same?  Does it really matter in which place you decide to enroll?  A few important things can make a huge difference in the quality of instruction a student receives, the amount of extra work and hassles the parents must deal with and the overall enjoyment and satisfaction of being involved with a dance program.  Here are some important things everyone should consider before deciding on a dance studio.

1. What type of dance floor is used?

Dance is a very physical activity that requires a lot of jumping which can put stress on growing bones and young joints.  Most dance footwear does not provide any cushioning or support. The shock of dance movement can place a lot of pressure on the knees and back of a dancer.  The best way to prevent against potential injury is by choosing a studio with a professional dance floor.

Our Dance Studio Advantage - The Professional Dance Floor
Our Dance Floor rests on a system of high density foam to absorb the shock and impact of regular dance movement. This benefits students by reducing fatigue and preventing injury that can result from dancing on hard surfaces. The nominal 2' x 2' (23.25" x 23.25") x 5/8" pre-fabricated OSB panels, with patented tongue and groove connection system, rest on "L" shaped high density foam suspension forms. With 6 foam forms per panel, our Dance Floor offers excellent energy absorption and resilience.

The top layer of our flooring surface is a professional vinyl composite "marley" floor similar to the surfaces used by the Royal Academy of Dancing in  London, England and shows such as Riverdance. This marley floor surface has a certain amount of controlled slip to allow for sliding in dance movement, but is not slippery like common tiles found in most other dance studios.

2. What is the size of the class?

If the dance class has fewer students in it, each student will receive more personalized attention, individual correction, learn more and have more fun.  With younger students, smaller classes allow the teacher to maintain student focus in the class and insure each student understands the concepts and instructions.  Our smaller classes (10 students maximum) ensure that no fundamental concepts are being missed and our teachers are better equipped to prevent students from developing bad habits or improper techniques.  Another result is a more personal relationship with students.

3. What opportunities are there for performing?

Our studio strives to give our students as many performance opportunities as possible.  We believe that performing is not only a fun tool to build self esteem and confidence, but also a great way to create wonderful memories that last a lifetime.

4. Can I get immediate assistance and customer service?

In many other studios, the teacher or the studio owner conducts classes and does the administration.  By trying to do 2 jobs at once, the class may suffer as the teacher has to use class time for customer service issues, or the studio may have no customer service available if the teacher is in a class.  To have a good experience it is important to choose a studio that can assist you with details and questions, even if a teacher is occupied in a class.  Our studio has qualified office staff on hand during all regular class times so you can get immediate assistance.  Our directors are also readily available for your assistance.

5. Is there anything else I should consider?

Is the studio comfortable?

Our two dance studio rooms are fitted with wall mirrors so that the dancers are able to view themselves and the teacher easily and from a variety of angles.

The marley floor surface has a certain amount of controlled slip to allow for sliding in dance movement, but is not slippery like common tiles found in most other dance studios.

Is the location safe?

For our children’s safety, our studio is tucked safely away from any streets, passers by, or busy parking lots. Many studios have different philosophies and styles.  It is important to consider more than just what kind of classes are offered and the prices.

What kind of life experience is your child receiving overall?

Our studio embraces a whole child philosophy.  We know that dance classes may be only a small part of an otherwise busy and often chaotic life.  We strive to help you instill in your child good values, self esteem and healthy, positive self expression.  We encourage our students to always do their best outside of the studio in other areas of their lives as well.  We are involved at a personal level as much as possible and try to always be available to discuss any special needs or concerns you may have about your child.

In short: We care!!
